Finding Anything with Global Search
How to use the dashboard's global search to jump to any call, contact, or order by name, phone number, or order number, and how recent searches work.
What global search does
The search box at the top of every dashboard page finds records across your whole account and takes you straight to them. One search covers:
- Contacts by first name, last name, full name, email, or phone number
- Calls by phone number (full or partial, in any format)
- Orders by customer name, phone number, or order number
- Dashboard pages by name (type "billing" or "watchtower" to jump there)
Selecting a result opens the record directly: a call result opens that call's detail drawer on the Calls page, a contact result opens the contact's profile, an order result opens the order sheet. The link in your address bar identifies that specific record, so you can bookmark it or share it with a teammate on your account.
How to search
- Click the search box in the header, or press Ctrl+K (Windows) / ⌘K (Mac) from anywhere in the dashboard.
- Type at least two characters. Results appear as you type, grouped by category.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ arrow keys to highlight a result, then press Enter to open it. Or just click.
- Press Esc to close the dropdown.
Phone number searches are format-tolerant: "555-0142", "(212) 5550142", and "2125550142" all match the same number. Partial digits work too, so an area code like "212" surfaces recent calls from that region.
Order numbers are plain digits. Typing "142" finds order #142.
Recent searches
When you click into an empty search box, a Recent section lists the results you've opened before, most recent first. This gives you one-click recall for the records you check often (a repeat customer, an in-progress order) without retyping the search.
- The list keeps your last 8 opened results.
- Clear (top-right of the Recent section) empties the list.
- Recents are stored in your browser on that device. They aren't synced between devices, and they never leave your machine.
Scope
Global search always covers your entire organization, across all locations, regardless of which location is selected in the sidebar. The per-page filters on Calls, Contacts, and Orders still work the way they always have; global search doesn't change them.
What global search doesn't cover
- Call transcripts and summaries. Search matches calls by phone number, not by what was said. To review what happened on a call, open it from the Calls page and read the transcript in the detail drawer.
- Knowledge base content. Facts, FAQs, and documents are managed (and searched) on the Knowledge page.
- Team members. Your team roster lives on the Team page, which has its own list.
- Searches under two characters. Single-character queries don't run.
If you search for a caller by name and get no contact match, the caller may not have a saved contact yet. Contacts are created automatically from calls when auto-save is on (see the toggle on the Contacts page), or you can add one manually.
